"Although you may all see the world differently, each of you are united under the tile of 'Shinobi'..."

Ranks:

Typically, the average Shinobi will begin their careers as young as twelve-years-old as Academy Students, these Academy Students will then graduate into Genin or "Junior Ninja". Genin are often young and can vary wildly in terms of raw power and ability, venturing out on low-rank Missions for their village that often consist of general labor and other things which pose little risk to the more often than not young members of the rank. Once a Genin has reached a certain level of maturity, ability, and depending on factors independent to their teachers they will then be given the opportunity to take their Village's Chuunin Exams that will determine whether or not they are prepared to advance to the next stage of their careers.

Chuunin or "Journeyman Ninja" are those who the individual's Village has determined competent enough to take on more dangerous tasks for their Village, as well as the right to teach younger ninja such as Academy Students and Genin and sometimes supervise the latter on missions depending upon the difficulty and risk involved. Typically, most Shinobi do not advance further than this in their career, however, if one is dedicated, skilled, and loyal to their village - They may be asked to take part in the Jounin Exams to determine their eligibility for the title and rank of Jounin. It is also possible to be promoted due to personal recommendations to the Village Kage by fellow Ninja, which the Kage may then decide to promote the individual Shinobi if they believe them capable of bearing the responsibility of the rank.

Jounin or "Elite Ninja" are those who are a cut above the rest, representing a very small but very powerful portion of the Village's fighting force and are typically called upon to take on missions too dangerous for even the Chuunin. They can also serve as leaders of teams of Chuunin, but primarily do so with Genin in order to prepare the young Shinobi for the Chuunin Exams.

ANBU or "Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai" is a term used for the "Special Assassination and Tactical Squad" of an individual village which primarily deal with the 'dirty business' of a Village that they do not wish to be known to the public, such as Assassinations and Espionage. Within these specialized teams, the previous rank of the individual or their age has no bearing on how they are treated within. Only the individual's ability and experience in what they do is seen as important, creating a tightly-knit group of individuals who are utterly devoted to their Kage or leader above all else.

Sannin or "Three Legendary Ninja" is a term made popular by Konohagakure refers to three individuals who possessed abilities beyond that of any other Shinobi within their time. Although these three have long since perished, the title has become a tradition within many villages to appoint to those who they believe exemplify their village's power above all the other Shinobi at their disposal. As the name implies, only three such individuals are ever appointed in a village at any given time - former Sannin often later becoming Kage of their respective Village or legendary figures in some respects.

Kage or "Shadow" is the term used to describe the leader of any given Village's Shinobi force. These individuals are chosen based on varying criteria depending on the Village in question, however, they are often the most experienced and powerful Shinobi in the entirety of their Village, commanding a powerful presence wherever they go.

Gaining Ranks:

Academy Student: No Requirements.

Genin: Graduate your Village's Academy, this often requires a simple demonstration of basic Shinobi Techniques which is done In Character through a 500 Wordcount minimum post graded by an Academy Teacher or Staff NPC.

Chuunin: Pass your Village's Chuunin Exams. Each Village has a unique Chuunin Exam, so be careful in ensuring that you prepare for the specific Exam given by your Village.

Jounin: Pass the Jounin Exams or be elected for the position after reaching Chuunin and completing at least five (5) Missions of rank C or Higher.

ANBU: Be chosen by the respective ANBU force within your Village, although you must have at least 400 Total Stats to be considered for this position due to the elite nature of the ANBU forces.

Sannin: Be directly chosen by your Village's Kage, although you must have at least 700 Total Stats and have completed five (5) Missions of rank A or Higher.

Kage: Be elected by your Village through popular vote, take the title forcibly from the previous Kage, or inherit the position through some other means. Although to be considered for this position by vote, you must have at least 850 Total Stats and have completed at least one (1) SS-Rank Mission.

Gaining Ranks (Missing Ninja):

Missing Ninja, as they do not reside within a Village are ranked independently from whatever Rank, if any, they held as a Village Shinobi. This Rank is referred to their "Bingo Book" Rank and is based upon the direct threat which they pose to the shinobi nations at large, granting the same rewards upon Ranking Up as Village Shinobi. Overall, Missing Ninja are able to more quickly gain Ranks, however, due to their inability to make Private Threads unless harbored by a Village or located in a Hideout of some sort makes this a double-edged sword as it also gives more incentives for others to hunt them, including other Missing Ninja.

Note that all requirements listed must be fulfilled to gain the associated Rank.

E-Rank: No Requirement, Upon Creation.

Although it is not a legitimate Rank within the "Bingo Book", E-Rank designation essentially refers to a Missing Ninja / Nukenin that has yet to prove themselves.

D-Rank: Reach 120 Total Stats (Without modifiers).

C-Rank: Reach 220 Total Stats (Without Modifiers).Complete at least two Contracts of C-Rank or higher.

S-Rank: Reach 700 Total Stats (Without Modifiers), Complete four A-Rank Contracts or one S-Rank Contract, Kill or Capture at least two Village Shinobi of ANBU Rank or higher,

SS-Rank: Reach 850 Total Stats (Without Modifiers), Complete four S-Rank Contracts, Kill or Capture at least one Village Shinobi of Kage Rank or higher, Reach a total Bounty of at least 1,000,000 Ryo.

Stat Points upon Creation:

Academy Student: 60

Genin: 120

Chuunin: 220

Jounin 350

ANBU: 400

Sanin: 700

Kage: 850

Training and Retraining Stat Points:

Note: Retraining Stats refers to the act of reallocating stats from one Field to another, there is no limit to how much this can be done, however, doing so costs substantially more Wordcount and if any Stat Field is reallocated below the requirement of a Technique, KKG, or Equipment, you will lose the abilities tied to the aforementioned until you once again meet the requirements.

Training Stats from 1-499 Total Stats: 250 Wordcount per Stat Point, 300 Wordcount per Retrained Stat Point.

Training Stats from 500-1,200 Total Stats: 500 Wordcount per Stat Point, 600 Wordcount per Retrained Stat Point.

Items, KKG, or factors other than the Character's Base Stats (those allocated directly by the Player) are not counted when determining Total Stats.

Please see the Stats thread for more information regarding Stats, as well as the Hard and Soft Stat Caps.

Combat and Training Threads (those which are at least a majority of either direct Combat or Training and includes at least one additional Player) have the benefit of offering a decreased Wordcount Per Stat, this stacks with any other Trait benefits although cannot go below 50 Wordcount per Stat Point.

Combat and Training Threads have the following Wordcount per Stat Point differences: Wordcount per Stat Point is lowered to 125, Wordcount per Retrained Stat Point is lowered to 150 Wordcount. Upon reaching 500 Total Stats, this number increases to 250 Wordcount per Stat Point and 300 per Retrained Stat Point.

Private Threads may still benefit from the Combat and Training Bonus, as well as Solo Threads although these are limited to three active Private or Solo Threads at a time in regards to gaining Stat Points. Threads which have not received a post in at least 48 hours will not be counted against your Active Threads.

Please see the Thread Tag Rules for more information.
