Personality:
"I would never sacrifice my ideals, for anything - or anyone."

Shion is first and foremost a believer in resolving issues she encounters without violence whenever possible and detests being forced into a position in which she has no other choice but to fight or even kill to defend herself and those she considers it her duty to protect. Even after being exiled from her homeland and branded a Missing Ninja, she has remained committed to her ideals and has refrained from instigating or getting involved in conflicts whenever possible. Although, Shion understands that some issues can only be resolved through swift action often including violence in some manner, and although she considers herself a practiced pacifist she is also capable enough to dispatch many who would underestimate her abilities.

Aside from her distaste for violence, Shion also has a strong sense of right as well as following a code of honor which she attempts to instill in those she teaches to guide them onto a path that is more gentle than the one that the average shinobi often undertakes. She believes that challenging and defeating one's enemy should be done plainly and fairly, being utterly opposed to the use of Genjutsu and Kinjutsu which she considers 'Underhanded Tactics' which give the user an unfair advantage over their opponent. It is for this reason that Shion has found herself at odds with the new regime of Yamagakure as well as most of the modern shinobi world, as many are not afraid to utilize such tactics or to otherwise act in ways which she considers 'dishonorable'.

Furthermore, Shion believes that the only way to stop the use of such tactics in the future is to train the next generation of shinobi in the ways of peaceful resolution and honorable battle, finding herself favoring the society of the Samurai and foreigners of faraway cultures who follow a similar code of ethics to herself and share many of the same beliefs.

Backstory:

I. Kumogakure

Although she does not talk much about her early childhood, it is well-known that Shion had been a star-student during her Academy years and excelled well into her time as a Genin in which she would be partnered with an elderly teacher and two other young shinobi, one who had unfortunately perished during the Last Shinobi War and the other would leave shinobi life behind after the war in order to become a civilian and later go on to advise the "Queen" which would later rule Yamagakure.

For the time being, however, the three fresh Genin would perform menial tasks around the Village while studying and training themselves for the Chuunin Exams over the coming year, which at the time consisted of intense combat exercises against senior shinobi along with being required to perform complex Ninjutsu. Shion had, thankfully, studied with a fervor up until the Exam itself and thanks to the assistance of her Team in training the girl physically for the event would find herself passing with flying colors and being brought to the rank of Chuunin - just as word arrived that Konohagakure would be requiring their help immediately against Kirigakure in a planned attack which would allow Konohagakure to seize control of the islands which Kirigakure controlled as well as eliminating one of their more prominent threats to power within the region.

II. An Unrequested War

Dutifully, along with her Team of freshly graduated Chuunin, Shion would leave for Kirigakure along with an escort of Konohagakure shinobi and would be chosen among those to be sent to the front lines of the attack and regrettably would participate in the utter destruction of the village and furthermore the massacring of its residents which left the former Kirigakure utterly devastated and clouded by a fog of red mist that now tainted the very air around them all with the scent of death and sights which would be burned into her mind for years to come.

It was this assault that Shion credits her disdain for fighting and furthermore her resentment for conflict in general. To battle and defeat other shinobi was one thing, but to kill innocent civilians as well? Konohagakure had gone too far, however, she could not have even conceived what was to come next.

III. The Fall

It would be upon their return to Kumogakure that their allies in Konohagakure would do the unthinkable. They turned upon Kumogakure and, utilizing the surprise betrayal, would utterly decimate its population much as they had done to Kirigakure before them. Following this, the Village was burnt to the ground and the survivors along with Shion herself found themselves being forced to hide within the Mountain which they once resided atop to survive the onslaught. The survivors, mostly children, and younger shinobi such as herself were forced to rebuild their Village within the Mountain over the next several years with the newly built village being renamed as Yamagakure or "The Village Hidden Within The Mountain" due to their new surroundings.

IV. A Glimmer of Hope

Although Kumogakure had been destroyed, the newly formed Yamagakure quickly rallied themselves behind the remaining members of the now-deceased Raikage's family, Mirai, and Sachiko Kamiyama. They were both extraordinarily young, however, Shion believed there to be potential particularly within the elder Sachiko who she believed could be taught in her newly found ways of peaceful resolution and swordsmanship that revolved around mainly defensive maneuvers or other Techniques meant to disarm the opponent rather than killing them outright.

Quickly, Shion attached herself to the young shinobi and would begin training her with the blessings of the other Elders of the Village, finding that the girl had caught on extraordinarily fast and that as the girl's principles seemed to align with her own - teaching her to face confrontation in a more peaceful manner was rather easy, as she seemed to have the same desire for honorable and chivalrous conflict rather than the often chaotic and deceitful interactions of the modern shinobi world which had led to the destruction of their Village in the first place.

V. An Unseen Hand

Unbeknownst to Shion, the now nearly of-age Sachiko was also being guided along from the shadows by a woman who she knew very little about. All that Shion knew for certain was that she followed a similar religion to the Kamiyama, except for an unsettling acceptance of violence and deception in the name of spreading their beliefs among the populace. It was, however, only once the religion became mandated across the Village and the woman being named as an Archbishop to oversee the transition that everything immediately became clear to Shion.

The Queen was being manipulated all this time, and Shion had been too blind to see it. The more she thought on it, the more she recalled seemingly innocuous comments from Sachiko regarding the woman along with the studies she was being placed into; That woman had been indoctrinating her, making the girl who was now in control of the entire Village into a puppet. An utterly willing, oblivious puppet, who would do anything that was asked of her by her manipulator.

Shion only knew one way to handle such a situation, no matter how suicidal it may have been, she had to confront the Archbishop directly and reveal what she had realized about the connection between the two. If she would not listen to reason, Shion was confident revealing the information to the general populace would serve as an effective deterrent.

VI. Excommunicated

Unfortunately, upon attempting to confront the Archbishop of her manipulations and demanding that she resign herself from the position she had been appointed in order to make amends for what she had done, Shion found herself being intercepted by a cadre of the newly formed Royal Guard who would escort the Knight to the chambers of the very person she had sought to confront, who would go on to reveal she was already aware of what Shion was attempting to do and stated quite plainly that she could either resign herself to the knowledge, do nothing, and receive compensation for her 'cooperation' or, she could continue attempting to reveal this information to the public and be banished from the Village entirely.

Not believing that the woman was capable of such a thing, Shion refused the offer and informed her in no uncertain terms that she would always continue to fight against this corruption, no matter how long it took or what she was labeled as. She then found herself swiftly imprisoned and, with little fanfare, was escorted out of the Village in the dead of night, branded with the mark of an "X" upon the back of her right hand and then knocked unconscious before being unceremoniously deposited several miles from the Village just before sunrise the very next day.

Shion has attempted to return to Yamagakure several times after this, however, she has been unable to return since her "Excommunication" and any attempts to do so have only resulted in frustration and defeat against the newly trained and outfitted shinobi guarding the Village who have been instructed to keep the shinobi from entering at all costs.

VII. The Shinobi Freedom Front

As a direct result of all that Shion has experienced under the rule of Villages: Corruption, War, Torture, and other such atrocities, Shion formed the Shinobi Freedom Front in an attempt to bring peace to the world of shinobi by dismantling the Villages in which she believes now serve as little more than concentrations for villainy and despair. Rallying anyone who will listen to her call behind her, Shion hopes that if she is able to bring down the Villages and their systems of inherent imbalances of power - She can free her Queen from the system that has corrupted her for so long.
